Yesterday I went to a symposium at Strawberry Hill- a house in south east London that is the gothic confection beloved of Horace Walpole- notorious 18th century collector of art, antiquities and all things curious. I’m blogging about it today as I left there at about 5pm and got back to Pembrokeshire at 1am and am only just recovering! A great range of speakers and other participants made for an extremely interesting and enjoyable day. The house has been extensively restored over the past few years and has a fantastic range of renaissance stained glass throughout- lots of birds and the odd cricket and butterfly!
The study day was hosted by the World Monuments Fund Britain who supported the project and I was excited to hear about one of their other projects, which involves the conservation and display of thousands of glass fragments in storage at Coventry Cathedral. It will be fascinating to see the project unfold. Stained glass rocks!
